After the spectacular success of Spider-Man: No Way HomeAudiences are eagerly awaiting Tom Holland’s return as Spider-Man in a fourth solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although such a sequel is already in development, almost nothing is known about what the film will be about or who will appear in it.
The possibilities for Spidey’s next adventure are endless, and while the world eagerly awaits his return to the big screen, here’s a list of new characters Spider-Man could face in his fourth film in the MCU.
This metal-headed gangster leads one of the crime families in the Maggia (Marvel’s version of the Mafia) and has remained one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies. After this gangster was brutally beaten up in a back alley brawl, his fractured skull was replaced with a metal plate, rendering him indestructible.
Hammerhead experienced a surge in popularity after appearing as the main antagonist in the DLC pack for Marvel’s Spider-Man. If the MCU decides to let the Webslinger fight more street-level villains, Hammerhead could be a much grounded villain in an overpowered world.
In the comics, Spencer Smythe was a professor who created robots to hunt down and unmask Spider-Man while being funded by J. Jonah Jameson. The latter even piloted one of these machines himself to personally reveal the Webslinger’s secret identity.
With Doctor Strange wiping the world’s memory of Peter Parker, Jameson may attempt to unmask Spider-Man again by hiring Smythe to create and send out the Spider-Slayers.
For those who watched the vintage animated series Spider-Man and his amazing friends, these two superheroes will be welcome additions to Peter’s team. As their names suggest, Angelica Jones and Bobby Drake are super-powered mutants who have control of fire and ice, respectively. As Marvel Studios sets the stage for mutants to rock the MCU, these two heroes could start out as Spidey’s partners before joining the X-Men.
Just as Doctor Strange faced his evil variant Multiverse of Madness, Spider-Man could face this evil version of himself in his next solo film. As the name suggests, Spider-Carnage is a version of Spider-Man that has bonded with the Carnage symbiote. Though the villain is usually associated with Peter’s clone, Ben Reilly, Spider-Carnage proves how Peter Parker can become one of the most dangerous threats to the entire multiverse.
In the final of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Spider-Carnage tried to destroy every single universe out of hatred for himself and everything around him. This villain could act as the perfect foil for Spider-Man in his fourth film, as he could mirror Peter’s self-loathing and destructive tendencies that came to the fore No way home.
Not long ago, Norman Osborn bonded with the Carnage symbiote in the comics and created one of the most fearsome foes Spider-Man has ever faced. The Red Goblin was so powerful that Peter was forced to reconnect with the Venom symbiote just to stand a chance.
Since Willem Dafoe’s version of the Green Goblin has returned to wreak havoc No way home, it seems plausible that another version of him in the demonic red suit could emerge from the multiverse. He could even be a servant of Spider-Carnage should the former show up, since both villains were working together Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
Madame Web was introduced in the comics as the blind and paralyzed mutant Cassandra Webb. Despite being bound to a life support machine, Webb possesses the powers of premonition, clairvoyance, and telepathy, allowing her to act as Spider-Man’s key allies.
As Sony continues to build its Spidey-centric universe with the upcoming Madame Web movie, there’s a chance the MCU will show Peter encountering this psychic as the multiverse continues to unravel.
This interdimensional vampire is a member of “The Inheritors” who have been hunting the Spider-Men throughout the multiverse as it was prophesied that those gifted with the “Spider Totem” would defeat them. Morlun is famous for temporarily assassinating Spider-Man in the comic book story The Other, making him one of the Webslinger’s greatest adversaries.
The MCU is currently exploring the multiverse, particularly with the crossover hit No way homeso it wouldn’t be a surprise if Marvel Studios decided to sink their fangs into Morlun’s story by pitting Spider-Man against him next.
As many other Avengers have found protégés lining up for their mantles, Peter Parker could find his successor in Miles Morales. As many people now know, Miles is a boy from a parallel universe who becomes the new Spider-Man after Peter Parker is murdered.
Featuring Miles growing in popularity after the success of his Oscar-winning film Into the Spider-Verse, an appearance in the MCU seems almost inevitable at this point. Though Tom Holland’s character might meet the implied Miles Spider-Man: Homecomingcould the MCU now follow comic lore and make Miles come from another universe.
In the comics, Gargan was hired by J. Jonah Jameson to study Spider-Man and later took part in an experiment that gave him superhuman abilities. Although audiences have already met Mac Gargan Spider-Man: Homecomingthey haven’t seen his supervillain personality in the MCU yet.
With Gargan and Jameson now holding grudges against the wall crawler, they could team up against him in Spidey’s fourth film, with Jameson giving Gargan the tools he needs to become a supervillain. However, it’s possible that his iconic persona may first appear in the Marvel Studios film. thunderboltssince he served as a member of that title team.
Here’s a villain who didn’t get the movie treatment he deserved. Martin Li is a kind-hearted philanthropist with an evil personality, born from the experiment that gave him superpowers. As Mister Negative, Li can corrupt people with his energy, giving them his powers while controlling them. This power allowed him to form an entire band of masked criminals called the Inner Demons and wage war against the Maggia.
The MCU hinted at Li’s presence with the FEAST project led by Aunt May when he founded this non-profit organization in the comics. Da was murdered in May No way homeits sequel might see Li take over the nonprofit organization while secretly acting as New York’s next all-powerful crime boss.
Black Cat, born Felicia Hardy, is a world famous feline burglar who repeatedly crossed paths with Spider-Man, eventually becoming both his partner and girlfriend. Although their relationship has been complicated, to say the least, Felicia has continued to fight alongside Spider-Man on numerous occasions, making her one of the Webslinger’s most trusted allies.
There have been several attempts to bring Black Cat to the big screen, with Anne Hathaway and Felicity Jones set to play her at different times. She would even appear opposite Silver Sable in the aptly titled film, silver and black. However, Holland’s fourth Spider-Man film seems like the perfect way to introduce her. Since Peter is no longer with MJ, Felicia could become his new love interest, as well as his new ally out in the field.
Ever since Sony failed to do Venom justice in Sam Raimi’s third Spider-Man film, fans have been clamoring for Marvel to properly adapt this character and his iconic Alien Costume Saga. Tom Hardy’s Venom was briefly brought into the MCU by Doctor Strange’s botched spell, but he still left a piece of the Venom symbiote behind. Marvel has thus planted the seeds for Holland’s Peter to bond with Venom and obtain the legendary black costume.
Then Peter found himself in a dark place No way home, the alien costume could use his inner demons to take over his life and force him to face them in his next film. And if Scorpion appears in the movie, the symbiote could bond with him and turn him into a new version of the villainous Venom introduced to fans in the comics.
