Your favorite podcast may soon have an official, easy-to-find forum. meta has teamed up with podcast giant Acast to offer exclusive Facebook groups for podcasts with paid Acast+ subscriptions. Link your membership to your Facebook account and you’ll have a ready-made place to discuss the latest episode with fellow fans – no need to search for a forum or use social media hashtags. You also get exclusive offers like live streams and question-and-answer sessions with moderators.
The two companies have not said when subscriber groups will be available. Several podcasts are involved in a test phase, including the beauty show Fat mascara. The price you pay will likely vary, but podcasters can activate Acast+ for free.
Struggling to compete in the podcasting space, Meta began shutting down services in early June. However, the deal keeps the company involved in the category. The social media company can capitalize on the rise of paid podcasts (through increased use of its services) without having to devote resources to content creation or distribution. This is the first time a podcast company has used Facebook’s new platform for interoperable subscriber groups, but it may not be the last for Acast’s partnership to prove successful.
