After teasing potential upcoming map changes for Storm Point in Apex Legends Season 13, Respawn has apparently confirmed that Newcastle will be the next playable character coming to the battle royale. You can spot the teaser by loading up Control, which will remain in Apex Legends as a limited-time mode until April 12.
If you load Control independently of the map, the loading screen will show holographic signs that say “The wait is over, he’s here!” Next to this message is a blacked out rendering of an armored figure.
Newcastle was first mentioned years ago when Respawn announced that Revenant would be Season 4’s new playable legend. The Apex Games organizers debated what to do to stop Revenant from going on a killing spree, and it was suggested that Newcastle be passed over as Forge’s replacement, with Revenant thrown into the games instead.
It’s been excuse after excuse ever since, as exceptions have been made to add numerous people to the Apex games. So this teaser is probably referring to in-universe fans of the blood sport eager to finally see Newcastle after being overtaken nine times. Finally seems to be his moment.
In my weekly Apex Legends column, I theorized that Newcastle would be the next playable character. He appeared alongside eight other characters in a huge Apex Legends leak, and The Williams Sendoff appears to line up that Newcastle is Bangalore’s brother, Jackson Williams.
In the above leak, Newcastle is described as a “mobile defender”. Like Gibraltar and Caustic, he has an above-average hitbox and the Fortified perk. His abilities are listed as follows:
- passive: Recover the Wounded – Pull downed allies while reviving them and protect them with your revive shield
- Tactical: Mobile Shield – Throw a throwable drone that creates a moving shield of energy
- Ultimate: Castle Wall – Leap and slam at a target, ally, or area, creating a fortified fortress.
Based on how Season 12 ended, Apex Legends Season 13 is expected to begin in mid-May around May 10th.
