If the rumors are to be believed, Apple could unveil its first-ever mixed reality headset later this year. We’ve been hearing rumors about this device for years and 2022 might actually be the year we’ll see it, but it seems Apple could do more than just launch a headset.
According to a report by TrendForceNot only is Apple expected to launch a mixed reality headset, but there’s a chance the company might offer a subscription service with the device as well.
The report is “Strong shipments of Oculus and Microsoft products will likely force Apple to release relevant products to compete this year. However, TrendForce states that given the hardware performance requirements and gross margins, Apple will likely target the commercial market and follow the same pricing strategy as HoloLens, hardware costing thousands of dollars and a monthly subscription-based software solution.
We know Apple is a fan of the subscription model, as it’s managed to generate a very steady stream of revenue over the years. So it should come as no surprise that they might launch one for his headset as well. What exactly this subscription might offer users is unclear, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
