It’s clear that Apple has quite an interest in gaming. After all, games are probably the most popular category of apps, and Apple invested in Apple Arcade to offer a more premium gaming experience for gamers who were tired of games with ads and in-app purchases.
So much so that, to be honest, it’s not really surprising that the company might also be investigating Creating your own gaming controller. This is according to a patent discovered by Cult of Mac, in which it appears that Apple may be developing a gaming controller for its devices that features magnetic attachments.
This means users can quickly connect it to devices like the iPhone or iPad and start playing right away. Since Apple has been rumored to be bringing MagSafe to the iPad, such an accessory makes some sense. Apple can also ensure optimal compatibility, perhaps with games on the Apple Arcade.
Before we get too excited though, it’s only a patent so it’s hard to say if it will actually come to fruition. Also, a gaming controller feels a bit too niche for Apple to invest in, especially since there are plenty of third-party options that work just as well, but it’s still fun to think about.
