Do you remember when PSY’s catchy “Gangnam Style” broke the internet all those years ago and became the first YouTube video to hit 1 billion views? At the moment the video has over 4 billion views, which is quite impressive to be honest, but we could now have a new winner in the form of the also incredibly catchy “Baby Shark”.
Based on the YouTube count, it looks like the popular nursery rhyme managed to become the first YouTube video to surpass 10 billion views. The video actually broke the record in November 2020 when it became the most viewed video on YouTube with over 7 billion views, and it looks like it’s grown another 3 billion views since then.
The song was originally released in 2016 where it was created by South Korean education company Pinkfong and performed by Korean-American singer Hope Segoine. While the video and song itself was fairly popular in Asia, it wasn’t picked up by American media until 2019, where it became a TV show on Nickelodeon and was also made into cereal.
The song was also quite popular on social media platforms like TikTok, where teens and adults filmed themselves dancing to the nursery rhyme.
