The DC movie universe may have gotten a bit muddled at this point, but there still seems to be a character that ties various movies together. During the Black Adam panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, it was confirmed that Viola Davis would appear in the film as Amanda Waller, a role she had played in Suicide Squad, The Suicide Squad and even HBO Max’s Peacemaker.
Waller was featured in footage shown to the Hall H audience calling on the Justice Society of America to incarcerate Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) as he is a loose gun. According to GameSpot’s Mason Downey, who is in Hall H for the presentation, the footage shown was more violent than expected.
It remains to be seen how much of a presence Waller will have in the film, although she likely won’t have the same presence as in the Suicide Squad films. Knowing that this movie ties directly to the DCEU’s Suicide Squad page is pretty cool.
An abridged version of the clip was released showing Adam wreaking havoc and havoc around the world. They really push the theme that he’s no ordinary superhero. “The world needed a hero,” says Black Adam in the trailer. “It got me.” Maybe he’ll regret it.
Of course, Black Adam wasn’t the only DC movie shown during the Warner Bros. Hall H-panel. We also have a brand new trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which included the first look at the film’s villains, the sisters of Atlas. Of course, we’ve also seen a ton of kids transform into ridiculously powerful superheroes and cracked loads of jokes.
Black Adam hits theaters on October 21st.
