What to expect from Season 4
New operators, weapons and a limited-time Warzone event
The Mercenaries of Fortune roadmap details a new set of Operators coming to Vanguard and Warzone with the introduction of Special Operations Task Force Immortal. As is usual with new seasons, players can expect the Season 4 Battle Pass to contain 100 levels of new content, with two new DLC weapons in the free levels.
Special Operations Task Force Immortal will include Vanguard’s Captain Butcher as an operator in the premium tiers of the Season 4 Battle Pass. Task Force Immortal’s Callum Hendry and Ikenna Olowe will arrive later in the season, presumably as cosmetic operator packs in the in-game shop.
In the free tiers of the Battle Pass you will find the new Marco 5 submachine gun and the UGM-8 light machine gun. Unlock challenges for the Push Dagger melee tool and the Vargo-S assault rifle will be available later in the season.
Warzone’s Mercenaries of Fortune event works similarly to previous Call of Duty events, with a series of eight challenges to be completed for rewards such as a crosshair, weapon charm, emblem, decal and calling card, and weapon camouflages. Completing all eight challenges will unlock a gold Warzone armored SUV skin.
New Resurgence map, Caldera updates and new features
Mercenaries of Fortune brings the brand new Fortune’s Keep Resurgence map, which Activision says is about the same size as Rebirth Island and will feature similar melee and respawn actions. Fortune’s Keep centers around a mercenary hideout built on an island with a luxurious town and castle setting. A close-up tour of Fortune’s Keep can be seen in the reveal trailer for the new map.
Activision confirmed with the Season 4 roadmap that Fortune’s Keep will not permanently replace Rebirth Island, but the older map will be temporarily unavailable.
For Caldera, players can expect some changes on the island. One of the biggest updates is that Season 4 will remove 50% of the island’s vegetation to improve visibility on the map. In addition to better visibility, players also have more looting opportunities. The roadmap describes over a dozen points of interest that have been changed or added in Caldera, such as: B. Mercenary camps and several buildings in the capital. The location of interest also returns from the old Verdansk map.
Additional features for Warzone’s Caldera map include ATMs earning extra money for Plunder modes and the introduction of armored SUVs.
Golden Plunder will be the upcoming Caldera Limited Time Mode. Golden Plunder’s ruleset is similar to the Plunder’s Blood Money variant, but with an increased player count of 120. Players drop more money on death, and the amount of money required to win is increased to $5 million.
New maps and mode
Players can expect two maps for Season 4. Launching the season, USS Texas 1945 is a “reimagining” of the Battleship map from Call of Duty: WWII. Later in the season, players will receive the new Desolation map, described as a small to medium sized map set in a dense village riddled with destruction.
Call of Duty’s multiplayer Blueprint Gun Game makes its Vanguard debut. Just like a standard gun game match, players aim to be the first to complete all 18 guns to win the free-for-all match. Players must eliminate an enemy to switch to the next weapon, but can knock back other players by melee attacking them, knocking back the opponent by one weapon.
The traditional Zombies mode returns
Originally appearing in Call of Duty: World at War, the Shi No Numa map returns to bring Vanguard a classic turn-based Zombies experience. Treyarch has ditched Vanguard’s objective maps in favor of a more traditional Zombies experience, and Shi No Numa will be an “enhanced” version of this classic map.
Treyarch says players can expect this version of Shi No Numa to include a new area to explore, side Easter Eggs, a Wonder Weapon quest, and more. While Treyarch hasn’t confirmed if it will work the same way, the Wunderwaffe was shown in The Activision Roadmap Blog is very similar to the DG-2 Wonder Weapon originally featured on the Shi No Numa map. This release will also include Shi No Numa’s traditional flogger and electric traps, but players will still have access to Vanguard features like the Altar of Alliances and Tome of Rituals.
The upgraded map also gets a new storyline quest that ties into Treyarch’s ongoing Dark Aether narrative. This main Easter Egg is described as a “multi-step quest culminating in a devastating battle,” and fully completing the quest rewards players with a calling card.
In other Call of Duty news, Activision also revealed the release of Warzone 2.0 “soon” after the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Here is the first trailer revealed for Modern Warfare 2 and the Dark Water campaign mission The game’s preview was also released at the recent Summer Games Fest.
