The two big e-commerce players in India, Amazon India and Walmart’s own Flipkart, have intensified the rivalry in the market.
Amazon India, which previously announced its flagship sale for the Great Indian Festival on October 4th, has now postponed it to October 3rd. Coincidentally, arch-rival Flipkart had previously brought forward his own Big Billion Days sale from October 7th to 3rd.
The two biggies, who are targeting the same date for their respective prestigious sale events, make it clear how important this festival season is for both of them.
In general, according to market research reports, the month-long festival sale through major e-commerce platforms is expected to generate total gross merchandise value (GMV) of around $ 9 billion.
Flipkart will be running its Big Billion Days Sale for eight days – it ends on October 10th. Amazon has not announced the closing date for its sale event.
Over 1000 new product launches on Amazon.in
Amazon.in said in a press release that The Great Indian Festival (GIF) 2021, which begins October 3, “is dedicated to a large number of small sellers, including over 75,000 local stores from 450 cities, showing their unique selections Products to customers across the country. GIF 2021 will also showcase products from Amazon sellers through various other programs such as Amazon Launchpad, Amazon Saheli, Amazon Karigar, as well as top Indian and global brands across all categories. “
In total, over 850,000 sellers will participate in the Amazon sale and 1,000 product launches will take place in all categories.
The Great Indian Festival would include over new product launches from top brands such as Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Sony, Apple, Boat, Lenovo, HP, Asus, Fossil, Eureka Forbes, Bosch, Sony PS5, Microsoft Xbox, Philips and more.
In addition, customers can shop in the languages of their choice, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, as well as the newly launched Bangla and Marathi.
Amazon India has created more than 110,000 seasonal job postings on its network of operations. The company has expanded its fulfillment network by increasing its warehouse capacity by 40%. More than 60 fulfillment centers in 15 states offer 43 million cubic feet to sellers. The delivery infrastructure was also expanded.
As with most sales on Amazon, Amazon Prime members get early access to all offers during the sale. If you’re not already a Prime member, you can sign up for the same, which costs Rs 999. The microsite for the Amazon Great Indian Festival sale is now live and the website has revealed what to expect during the sale.
There are also many discount offers on selected credit cards and payment options.

Over 3.75,000 sellers on Flipkart
Flipkarts Big Billion Days sale also gets many sellers, MSMEs,
Kiranas and the best brands together. Flipkart said there were over 1,00,000 kiranas on board and over 3,75,000 vendors from across India will be coming to offer a wide range of products to millions of consumers who can access the Flipkart app in their native language. Consumers can use the free EMI feature “Flipkart Pay Later” for up to 70,000 rupees.
Line of credit and a wide range of EMI offerings in partnership with 18 leading banks and financial institutions. This is apart from the instant discount on selected credit cards.
The Big Billion Day Specials special edition includes over 100 new partnerships with brands in all categories and offers a wide range of over 10,000 new products, Flipkart said.
Customers also have the option to pre-book their products in categories like Beauty, General Goods, Household, Electronics and Lifestyle by paying a rupee as an advance.
Flipkart Plus members get one day early access to all offers.
Flipkart has also strengthened its seller base and is well on the way to having 4.2 lakh sellers on its platform by December 2021. Currently, the Flipkart marketplace supports digital commerce for 3.75 lakh sellers. Flipkart has already added 75,000 new sellers to its platform in the past few months.
