Dell announced several Ultrasharp monitors at CES 2023, covering a wide spectrum of the professional market. However, most people with enough room for a very large computer monitor should check out the new one Dell UltraSharp 43 4K USB-C Hub (Model U4323QE).
Technically a 42.5-inch monitor, this Dell monitor is designed from the ground up for productivity. I switched to 43″ monitors many years ago (albeit from LG), and such large monitors outperform smaller ones (36″ and under) in several productivity areas.
First, most people can use the native one 4K resolution at 100% or 125% scaling, giving you as much space as possible on the Windows desktop. This increases your potential to open multiple documents and apps at the same time.
Versatile spreadsheet users can view huge files and drastically reduce the scrolling required to view complex data or even highly complex formulas. This is the opposite of editing such files on a laptop.
Finally, you have a lot more vertical space compared to ultrawide monitors. When working with code or documents, more vertical space increases your productivity because you don’t have to scroll as much.
Dell’s new monitor offers all of these benefits and comes with one integrated USB-C hub. It’s like an integrated laptop dock with multiple quick-access USB ports, Ethernet connectivity, and 90W of power. While this isn’t uncommon, Dell offers a monitor design that looks pretty well built and should serve you well for years to come.
Dell notes that this monitor can display four independent video inputs, which most large monitors can. However, I didn’t find this practical unless you’re an IT admin or work in video surveillance or broadcasting.
Details like front-facing ports and joystick-style menu controls should make day-to-day use more enjoyable. The only downside is the premium price, which is $1330, and there are cheaper, less fancy alternatives.
