Destiny 2’s Root of Nightmares World First winners have been confirmed by Bungie. Over on Twitter, the developers congratulated Team Hard in the Paint (HITP) on this achievement.
Rip out the nightmares, root and stem.

The Root of Nightmares raid released on March 10th at 9:00am PT / 12:00pm ET. Members of HITP streamed their raid run on Twitch and recorded it as completing it in about 2 hours and 24 minutes Destiny 2 Raid Report Page. It took Bungie a few more hours to confirm the validity of the completion, leading to the congratulatory tweet above.
The next fastest clear after HITP was completed in 2 hours and 33 minutes. The Destiny 2 Raid Reports page is still being updated with team clears, and interested folks can check it out to see new clear times and leaderboards.
Root of Nightmares is currently in competitive mode and there is a power cap of 1780 to keep things fair for the World First race. Certain exotic weapons are also disabled in competitive mode. Competitive mode usually lasts 24 hours for raids, but it was extended by one day (48 hours total) for Root of Nightmares. All players who complete the Root of Nightmares raid while Competitive Mode is active will receive an exclusive emblem, and anyone who completes the raid before March 21st will have the opportunity to earn a Root of Nightmares” to wear in the real world.
Note that completing the heist before the given date will only grant you access to the jacket; You still have to shell out money to get the item. If you wish, the Root of Nightmare Jacket is $150.
