DJI’s original Osmo action camera was a pretty straightforward riff on the GoPro form factor, and as such, most people viewed it as just a cheap knockoff. But the new Action 2 camera is a shockingly unique device – it’s tiny, comes with a ton of magnetic accessories, and even drops the goofy “Osmo” branding.
The new Action 2 camera is available now on the DJI webstore and is only 1.5 inches tall and less than 2.5 cm thick. Its 12 megapixel sensor has an impressive field of view of 155 degrees and can record 4K footage at 120 FPS. It also records slow motion videos at a respectable 1080P 240FPS and is waterproof up to 10 meters.
These specs lag just slightly behind the GoPro HERO 10 Black’s 5.3K 60FPS capabilities and are impressive for a camera of this size. Of course, there are only so many ways to compare the Action 2 to a GoPro because their form factors are so different.
DJI uses a new magnetic mounting system to expand the capabilities of the Action 2 camera. Basically, when you buy Action 2, you get a bunch of magnetic accessories, including a 7-hour battery, lanyard, tripod adapter, and (if you buy the more expensive kit) a front-facing viewfinder for vlogging.
You can now order the DJI Action 2 from the DJI webstore. The basic “power combo” kit costs $ 400 while the “dual screen combo” kit with a front-facing viewfinder costs $ 519. These prices are comparable to the GoPro HERO 10 Black, which costs $ 450 when purchased with a one-year GoPro subscription (which is $ 50).
