Warcraft director Duncan Jones asks fans and followers a favor: He wants all of Walt Disney Studios to leave a message to let them know that he really wants to make a movie based on the classic LucasArts adventure game Full Throttle.
Originally released in 1995, Full Throttle follows the adventures of Ben Throttle, the leader of a biker gang called Polecats, who is accused of a murder he did not commit in order to overthrow the rightful owners of Corley Motors, the last domestic motorcycle manufacturer in the USA. It was designed and written by Tim Schafer with contributions from Schafer’s LucasArts partner Dave Grossman and is widely regarded as one of the best from LucasArts: We looked back on its 25th anniversary and found that with the help of a remaster from 2017, the badass biker -Adventure “Still Kicks The Ass”.
Jones is clearly a fan too. “If you could tell all of the Disney studios how much you would love me to go full throttle for Disney +, it would be adorable and I would be very grateful,” he tweeted over the weekend.

Jones knows a thing or two about video games. He is best known among gamers as the director of the 2016 Warcraft movie, and while that didn’t work out quite as everyone had hoped, he’s clearly a fan of the source material and has even shown an interest in making another movie despite him don’t have a great experience the first time. He also has a rogue trooper film in the works.
And so that there is no doubt about his dedication to the Full Throttle Project, Jones actually created a full first draft script for the film in 2020 that you can read in full here. It follows the same story line as the game and retains much of the original dialogue. A section:
– Ben looks around the corner and is shocked to see Corley bleeding to death on the floor. He rushes towards him.
MALCOM CORLEY
Ben!
(* coughs *)
I guess Ripburger couldn’t wait for natural causes. Just like he hits a man when his bow tie is down, heh heh.
(* coughs *)
BEN THROTTLE
Rippburger did that to you?
MALCOM CORLEY
Yes, he knew I was going to die … and he knew that my will would make him unemployed.
(* Grabbing Ben’s jacket *)
He wants to take over Corley Motors, Ben. Sell the farms, lay off workers. Start building minivans! You understand me?! Minivans !!
(* groans and coughs *)
You have to hurt him for me, Ben. Promise me! You will hurt him badly!
BEN THROTTLE
I promise.
MALCOM CORLEY
(* coughs *)
I want my daughter to take over the company.
BEN THROTTLE
You have a daughter?
MALCOM CORLEY
Yes! She’s a real mechanical genius, Ben! Her first carburetor overhauled at the age of four! My dynamo with diapers …
(* coughs *)
Find my daughter, Ben! Find Maureen!
-Malcom’s eyes roll back and he dies.
[Can a man be stoic and stunned? It would appear so.]
BEN THROTTLE
(stoically stunned)
Maureen?
It’s all just fun and games right now – Jones might be bored after another year of Covid-19, or maybe struggling with another writer’s block – but he’s clearly serious enough to be making strategic noise, and I think it would be a blast if it really happened. And it’s relatively simple: the story is already finished, Jones gives the project legitimacy and Schafer acts like a game:
I really wanted this year to be better than last year, but I didn’t expect @ManMadeMoon to spontaneously come up with a full script for a Full Throttle movie! https://t.co/KrCZZRPj86January 12, 2021
So what’s left? Film rights shouldn’t be a problem thanks to the multi-billion dollar deal that Disney struck in 2012 to acquire LucasFilm. I’ve been wondering how to do when you get paid to write about video games and I think Tom Hardy Would be a good choice if the budget allows. Chris Livingston suggested Idris Elbawho would be great too, although I’m not sure about the accent; on the lower budget side i thought Frank Grillo would be a good choice, but then Chris came up Jeffrey Dean Morgan and I have to admit that this is probably a better choice. But what about Karl Urban? I’ve forgotten Karl and now I suddenly think that he might be the best for the job.
Okay, I thought I nailed this down, but I clearly don’t. Whoever ends up in the role, I’ll be there: if Jones can make this film, I’ll definitely see it.
For those who have never seen it before (or want to enjoy it again), here is the full intro to Full Throttle Remastered, complete with one of my favorite video game theme songs of all time:
