Due to the pandemic that has raged in recent years, many events that would normally have been held in person have either been canceled outright or replaced with virtual events. It looks like players looking forward to E3 2022 this year will be disappointed to learn that neither will happen.
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) originally stated that the in-person events of E3 2022 would not take place and that a virtual event would take place instead. However, according to the organization, it turns out that even the virtual event would no longer take place.
In a statement to GamesBeat, ESA said: “E3 will return in 2023 with a reinvigorated showcase celebrating new and exciting video games and industry innovations. We previously announced that E3 will not be held in person in 2022 due to the ongoing health risks related to COVID-19. Today we are announcing that there will be no digital E3 showcase in 2022 either.”
they added “Instead, we will focus all of our energy and resources on delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether enjoyed from the exhibition floor or your favorite devices, Showcase 2023 will bring the community, media and industry back together in a whole new format and interactive experience. We look forward to bringing E3 2023 fans around the world live from Los Angeles.”
It’s a bit of a shame that the digital event is no longer on the horizon, but we reckon that companies that have new games to announce probably still do and will do so through their own channels, so players need to be one keep an eye out for it.
