The Elden Ring Rya quest is a long, dark quest into the twisted depths of Volcano Manor and one of the demigods of the Lands Between. Your reward, aside from a hefty dose of knowledge, is a talisman that acts as a kind of “hard mode” by increasing damage taken. However, like most quests in Elden Ring, completing this one will require a lot of time and a lot of patience.

How to start Rya’s quest in Elden Ring: Rya’s location
Rya’s quest begins east of the Scenic Isle Site of Grace in Liurnia. She is in the stone pavilion near the telescope marker on the map and asks for your help in recovering a stolen necklace. Agree to help her search, and she will vaguely tell you where to look.
Location of the Elden Ring Rya Necklace
The house where the thief retreated to is also nearby. It is Boilprawn hut, northwest of Rya’s starting location and north of Scenic Isle Grace. The thief will sit near a campfire and will either give you the necklace for 1,000 runes or drop it if you kill him. Whatever you decide, bring it back to Rya. She will thank you and give you an invitation to Volcano Manor. That’s the last you see of her for a while.
How to get to Volcano Manor?
The next phase of Rya’s quest takes place at Volcano Manor, although she may accompany you there in person depending on your route to the Altus Plateau. As you ride up the Grand Lift of Dectus from Liurnia, Rya will be waiting near the steps behind the giant golems. Talk to her and she will transport you to the mansion immediately.
If you took the long route through the tunnels instead, the game seems to skip that part and let you travel to the mansion either via another shortcut or on foot.
The other shortcut is in the basement of the Academy in Raya Lucaria, which you can access by taking the water wheel elevator all the way down instead of up. There you will meet the boss of the Abductor Virgins. Being pulled into the metal body will take you to the Inquisition Chamber beneath Volcano Manor. You still have to face the kidnapper maidens (and win this time), and the path beyond spits you out in the hermit village.
If on foot, head north through Seethewater on the Altus Plateau until you reach the Fort Laidd Site of Grace. Turn left and ride Torrent through the lava, ignoring the Magma Wyrm. Torrent will take damage, but not enough to make them go away before you reach the other side. Follow the road past the giant bear and you will reach the hermit village.
The village is an annoying place with swarms of half-humans, a half-human chief and Maggie the half-human queen. It’s easy to get overwhelmed. So if you’re not interested in clearing the area, just gallop to the other end. There is a Place of Mercy next to a wizard’s corpse. Take the Comet Azure spell off the body, turn around and follow the stone pillar across the gap.
Continue following the path up the cliff, then turn left when you come to a crossroads and cross the bridge (turning right will take you to a dungeon). Ride the Spiritwind, ignore the boss and rush into the mansion. Talk to Tanith and find Rya in the drawing room. You must agree to join Tanith to continue the quest.
How to continue Rya’s quest in Elden Ring
Complete Tanith’s first two requests and speak to Rya after each one. The second time, Rya is in her true form and mentions the circumstances of her birth as she understands them. Speak to Tanith, then quickly travel to Grace Manor to reload the area. Talk to Rya again to learn about strange noises behind the wall. Talk to Tanith, then exit the lobby and turn right. Hit the wall depicting a crooked portrait of a brazier to open the hidden path of Volcano Manor.
This will take you through a large prison, and you’ll emerge in a town aptly named Prison Town. It’s full of snake warriors, although for the most part you can walk past them if you’re in a hurry. After reaching the Guest Hall Site of Grace, you can speak to Rya again in the mansion to learn more about her mental distress, although it’s unclear if this is necessary.
Fast travel back to the guest hall and then keep moving forward. You arrive at the Temple of Eiglay church and face a Godskin noble. Get the snake’s amnion from the altar after defeating the boss, then talk to Rya again.
Rya is gone
Reload the area and you will find that Rya is gone. That’s supposed to happen, so talk to Tanith next. She gives you a tonic of forgetfulness and asks you to let Rya drink it when the truth of her origins causes too much pain.
Fast travel back to the Temple of Eiglay and take the elevator that went into service after the noble died. The road ahead is long but straight. When you finally find Rya, you have three choices.
Should you give Rya the tonic in Elden Ring?
Rya explains the truth about her birth and asks you to kill her. Don’t do it and refuse to give her the tonic. Defeat Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, then return to Rya’s lair. Talk to her again and refuse to give her the potion. Reload the area, return to the hideout and you will find a note explaining that it is left behind to find your way in life and obtain the talisman Daedicar’s Woe, which increases the damage you take.
If you give Rya the tonic, Tanith will be pleased, but eventually everyone leaves the manor and Rya is alone. After you defeat Rykard, she will be gone too, leaving the talisman behind. Finally, you can kill them as you wish. She will thank you, transform into her true form and drop the talisman.
