The field of digital consumer economy in India is booming and there is a new player in the market. The Tata Group has announced the launch of its much-discussed super app New on April 7 to take on Amazon and Reliance’s Jio platforms.
Previously, the app could only be used by Tata employees. The launch of Neu was announced by a teaser image on the app’s Google Play Store page. It has started promoting the super app with ongoing Indian Premier League.
Here’s what the app has to offer and how it differs from other apps.

What is Tata New?
The Neu-Super app promises “super bonuses” and brings airlines, hotels, medicines and groceries in one place. It is a one-in-all platform for purchases and payments.
“Consume the fastest digital content, make payments, manage your finances, plan your next vacation or maybe just your next meal – there’s a lot to discover and experience in the world of Tata Neu,” says the description of the app on Play store page.
According to the information available on the Play Store, the Tata New app offers users rewards every time they make a purchase or book flights and hotels. For spending, the app offers rewards in the form of new coins redeemable for other services, Livemint reports.
The app also hosts digital content.
Services newly available on Tata
The app will bring together many of Tata’s services. For booking airline tickets, there are AirAsia India and Air India, and for hotel reservations, users can search for Taj Group properties. Groceries can be ordered from BigBasket, medicines from 1mg upwards, electronics from Croma and for clothing, accessories and shoes there is Westside.
Users can manage their satellite TV through Tata Sky or buy luxury and beauty products from Cliq.
Nue also offers personal loans, short-term loans, and insurance.
Main features of the app
Tata UPI allows users to scan and pay by QR code at local stores, malls, pharmacies, and movie theaters.
All bills – electricity, cellular, DTH, broadband – can be paid at once.
The app lets you transfer money instantly with Tata Pay UPI.
user friendliness
The New app doesn’t overwhelm you with information. It has built in services like BigBasket and 1mg. So using it feels like an app within an app, reports Moneycontrol.
The smooth black background alongside the colors gives the app a premium feel, unlike Amazon’s which feels a lot messier. The app’s home screen feels like a digital version of Dubai Airport’s shopping district, according to the report.
Is this India’s first super app?
No, there are a few other super apps in India. Internet giants like Amazon, Paytm and Reliance Jio have developed their versions of super apps that offer a variety of services from shopping to streaming.
India had 1.2 billion mobile subscribers in 2021, of which about 750 million were smartphone users. According to a study by Deloitte, the country will have 1 billion smartphone users by 2026, with rural areas driving sales of connected phones.
India has already become a market where the majority of those who are new to the internet make transactions on their mobile phones. This is one of the main reasons why Indian companies seek reports to develop super apps The Indian Express.
