The first season of Game Informer Video Gameography explores the history of the Metroid franchise. This week we’re looking at Samus’s acclaimed Game Boy Advance foray, Metroid Fusion.
Metroid Fusion launched on November 17, 2002 – the same day as Metroid Prime. Developed by Nintendo R&D1, Samus stars as she explores a space station overrun by shape-shifting parasites called the X. Worst of all, Samus is being chased by an X Parasite that has mimicked her looks and abilities: the SA-X. Metroid Fusion served as a return to Super Metroid 2D gameplay with modern improvements like faster movement and crossing and a ledge ditch. Fusion has received critical acclaim as one of the best GBA games of all time. some fans even consider it a rival to Super Metroid as the best entry on the series. Chronologically, Fusion served as the final chapter of the Metroid saga for decades, until 2021 Metroid Dread.
Join the hosts Ben Reeves (@BenjaminReeves), Marcus Stewart (@ MarcusStewart7) and special guest Digital solar eclipse Editor-in-Chief Chris Kohler (@kobunheat) as we explore the lore, evolutionary history, and lasting effects of Metroid Fusion.
