Some settings seem ripe for near-infinite exploration, and one of those belongs to the Fallout games, starting with the first in 1997 and ending with Fallout 76 in 2018. The Fallout series captures the bright image we’re set in the 1940s and 1940’s of the future had 50’s and imagines it all came true – and then went horribly wrong. We had nuclear powered cars, home robots, and every convenience imaginable. Everything was clean and smartly designed.
And then, in 2077, a nuclear war blew everything up into hell. This is where the players come in. After living in underground bunkers called Vaults, built by a company called Vault-Tec, these self-sufficient shelters became homes for countless would-be survivors and would function until the world was safely habitable again. However, many of the vaults were also used as experiments on their occupants, while others simply didn’t work. Throughout the game series, players have left their vaults as early as 2102 and as late as 2287, venturing into the post-apocalyptic wasteland in search of knowledge, supplies, and survival.

The game series has garnered a loyal following thanks to its iconic art direction, unforgettable use of classic pre-war music, and wide-open worlds packed with quests, characters, and choices to explore. As a Vault Dweller, you can join the Brotherhood of Steel, hang out with ghouls (heavily irradiated mutant humans), fight raiders, and run away from super mutants and deathclaws as you choose how to save the world, help or use humans, allies find and meet companions.
With hundreds of years between the bombing and events of Fallout 4 and the disparate locations of the New California Republic and the East Coast wasteland, there’s plenty of space and time that the show could be set in. The series likely won’t be based on any specific Fallout game, though there’s so much content to draw from that it’s sure to be filled with references and Easter eggs for fans of the games to look out for.
What is the release date for the Fallout TV show?
Amazon has yet to announce a release date for the Prime Video Fallout series, although it’s safe to bet the show won’t debut until late 2023 at the earliest.
Who is the director?
While the series has its showrunners, no episode directors have been confirmed yet, although executive producer Jonathan Nolan will reportedly do so Direct the pilot episode. Showrunners are Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Graham Wagner (Portlandia). Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (Westworld) are developing the show, so it’s possible they will helm some episodes, but nothing formal has been announced. Nolan and Joy are executive producers along with Todd Howard, director of the Fallout and Elder Scrolls game series at Bethesda Game Studios.
Who is in the cast?
Casting information is still fairly limited as the show is relatively early in production, but the announced cast so far includes Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, Aaron Moten and Ella Purnell. Goggins is believed to be playing a ghoul on the show one of the heavily irradiated but still alive humans that appear frequently in the Fallout games. The roles of other cast members have not yet been announced.

What do we know about the story?
Details of the show’s plot are still being kept under wraps at this time. According to Variety, the series is “set in a world where the future Americans envisioned in the late 1940s is being shattered by a nuclear war in 2077.” In other words, we know the show draws from the same fiction as the games. Based on the first image released for the series above, we can bet that at least some of the main characters will emerge from Vault 33.
Is there a trailer
There is no trailer yet. Amazon has released an official picture of the series. You can also get a glimpse of one of the show’s sets and a small piece of the series’ legendary power armor all rolled into one Fallout Retrospective Video released this fall, in which Jonathan Nolan drinks a Nuka-Cola — the series’ in-fiction soda brand — that someone offscreen gave him.
How many episodes will season 1 have?
We do not know yet!
Will there be a second season?
Amazon has not yet announced whether there will be a Fallout Season 2; These announcements usually come closer to the show’s actual release date, when the show is expected to do well, or shortly thereafter, when the show becomes a surprise hit.
