Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier kicks off its first season today with a host of new features and rewards. Some of the most exciting additions include a new map, style, Materia, new weapons, and Sephiroth skins.
Dubbed Midgar (Plateside), the new map will allow players to fight across familiar Final Fantasy VII Remake locations such as Mako Reactor Core 1, Sector 8, and the Autobahn. The new Machnist style basically turns you into an engineer with a giant hammer. The new water matter can bind to other players and attack in an arc, meaning if used correctly you can hit players hiding behind cover.

It doesn’t matter in gameplay, but you can also unlock new Sephiroth skins, but much of this content is locked behind loot boxes and randomness. You are not guaranteed to unlock the Sephiroth content by progressing through the Season Pass. See below for more details on the new content.
New features in Season 3:
• New Map: Midgar (Plate Side)
• New Style: Machinist
◦ Wields a hammer and constructs various devices that disrupt enemies and allow for increased mobility
◦ Its range of skills and abilities gives players a higher level of customization than other styles.
◦ The style can be selected in the lobby before starting a game
• New Materia: Water
◦ Release water balls in an arc at enemies
◦ Effective against enemies behind cover
◦ This can only be obtained from treasure chests. It is also available in training mode
• New Weapons: Snake Launcher, Dual Wheel
◦ Snake Launcher: Fires missiles that explode on impact, dealing heavy damage
◦ Dual Wheeler: Magic Assault Rifle. Fires like a shotgun when charged with MP
• Newly added offensive and defensive accessories
◦ Offensive Accessories
▪ Ifrit Belt: Killing an enemy instantly reloads your weapon and temporarily increases the weapon damage you deal
▪ Drain Belt: Restores a small amount of HP each time you deal weapon damage
◦ Defensive Accessories
▪ Ring of Fire: Reduces fire damage by half
▪ Blizzard Ring: Reduces Blizzard damage by half and negates the effects of Slow
▪ Ring of Thunder: Reduces Thunder-type damage by half and negates the effects of Blind
GameSpot gave the game a 7 in its Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier review. Sony is holding its State of Play today, which optimistically could contain some Final Fantasy news. Here’s how you can view State of Play.
