Nintendo announced back in September that the classic N64 game GoldenEye 007 was coming to Switch, complete with online play. Microsoft announced on the same day that GoldenEye 007 would also come to Xbox, although this version of the famous game would not offer online multiplayer like its Switch counterpart.
None of the announcements included a release date, but today, developers Rare revealed that GoldenEye 007 launches this weekon Friday January 27th. The Switch version will be available as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, but you can purchase GoldenEye 007 individually on Xbox and it will also be available in Xbox Game Pass.
Interestingly, the Xbox version, while lacking online functionality, will include improved control options (like dual analog stick support), native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD, consistent refresh rate, and full performance support.
If you own Rare Replay on Xbox, you get access to GoldenEye 007 for free.
“Enter a world of espionage as Bond in GoldenEye 007,” reads a press release. “Your covert operation to stop the GoldenEye weapons satellite spans the globe – you’ll infiltrate underground bases, storm through a military train and sneak through the depths of a jungle. Along the way, M will brief you on your objectives and the Q branch will aid your efforts with a variety of gadgets, but the ultimate success of this mission rests with you alone.”
