Barely a day after Halo Infinite’s surprisingly early release, the multiplayer game hit the platform’s third most-played game high on Steam’s daily charts. At the time of writing, Top games list from Steam shows the game with a 24-hour peak of 272,586 simultaneous players, although the current number of players is not too much behind.
The game’s surprising multiplayer release quickly overtook Steam favorites like Apex Legends and PUBG, as well as Amazon’s latest MMO New World, which just sits behind DOTA 2 and CS: GO.
It’s also worth noting that the Steam charts don’t show the full extent of Halo Infinite’s popularity, as the game was also launched through Windows’ Xbox app. According to industry analysts Daniel Ahmad, Halo Infinite has already become the top hit Xbox Game Studios title in relation to its Steam launch.
Halo Infinite Multiplayer, which started about 2.5 hours ago * check the clock *, has already surpassed 162,000 concurrent users on Steam.
This makes it the most successful Xbox Game Studios title of all time on Steam

Since Ahmad’s tweet, Infinite’s maximum number of simultaneous users has risen to 272,586, miles ahead of other Xbox titles. The 2019 Halo: Master Chief Collection peaked with 161,024 concurrent players, while the most recent release of Forza Horizon 5 has only seen 81,096 concurrent players on Steam to date.
So far, only Infinite’s free multiplayer mode has been released, so it will be interesting to see if the full release of the game on December 8th will result in another surge in the number of Steam players.
