There are some games whose storylines feel great as a TV series or even a movie, and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us is one of them. HBO saw the potential and for those who don’t know, it was announced back in 2020 that the game would be getting its own TV series on HBO.
It’s now been around two years since the original announcement and for those who have been eagerly anticipating the release and hoping to see it this year, we have some bad news as it looks like it won’t arrive until 2023.
That’s according to HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys, who told Deadline the show is still filming and won’t air in 2022. Bloys suggested that it will most likely be released in 2023, but even then the way he put it it didn’t feel like a very concrete date.
According to Bloys, “It won’t air in 2022 – they’re still shooting in Canada. I imagine you’ll see it in ’23. He adds that he’s pretty excited after what he’s seen so far. “I’ve seen some early episodes and I’m very excited. Craig made Chernobyl for us, he’s a fantastic writer and director. What I’ve seen looks amazing so I’m looking forward to it, but it won’t be in ’22.
