With everything phones can do, it’s easy to forget that they’re actually phones at heart. Android gives you the option to swap out your phone (dialer) apps for something else from the Play Store. We show you how it works.
You don’t have to use the default apps that came with your phone. Google has a phone app which can be installed on most Android phones from Play Store. There are other third-party options as well.
If you want to try any of them, you need to set them as the “default” phone app after installing it from the Play Store.
First, depending on your phone, swipe down from the top of the screen once or twice to open the notification bar and tap the gear icon.
Next go to “Apps”.
On a Samsung phone, select “Default apps” or “Choose default apps”.
There are a few different categories of default apps here, the one we want is “phone app”.
Any app you have installed that may be the default phone app will appear here. Choose the one you want to use.
It is really that easy! Now when you receive a call, it will come through the app you selected. With this app you can now also make calls. Changing the default apps is an essential part of Android, make sure you use it.
