Movie nights have always been a great and super easy way to hang out with friends and family. It’s a casual way to meet up, have some snacks, and immerse yourself in a movie. It’s a little more complicated to get together with people in person these days, but that doesn’t mean movie nights are out of the question. Why not have a virtual watch party?
So your movie evenings can be virtual.
Teleparty, formerly known as Netflix Party, is an easy-to-use solution to keep movie nights up while you are away. You can be on different continents, but as long as you meet a few requirements, you can use the same function at the same time.
To host a virtual watch party with Teleparty, you need to have accounts on the streaming platform of your choice. The best thing about Teleparty is that it supports Netflix, Disney +, Hulu, and HBO Max. The virtual watch party allows up to 50 viewers at the same time. It’s up to you how many you want to include.
Teleparty is a free Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge extension. To use it and start a watch party, you need to install it and add it to your browser. Then pin it to your toolbar, go to your streaming service of choice, and play whatever you want to watch. Then you click Start party and share the party url to invite the other viewers. If you’re the one to join, just click the link and you’re good to go. Let the viewing party begin!
2. Disney +

The best part about using Zoom for your virtual watch party is that only one of the people needs to have a subscription to your streaming service of choice. Of course, that person is also in control of the display: pause, rewind, and so on.
To use Zoom for your virtual viewing party, video chat with the other participants and share your screen that is playing the title. For the best experience possible, it is preferable if the person sharing their screen has a paid Zoom subscription. That’s because the free version limits meetings to 40 minutes. Unless you’re watching a short episode show that doesn’t have a seamless display.
To have a virtual watch party with Zoom, prepare what you want to see so that it appears on your screen. Then start a Zoom meeting, share your screen, and when asked what to share, select the browser window with the ready-to-play feature. Choose share and enjoy.
4. Amazon Prime Video
As with Disney +, the Watch Party feature is available on Amazon Prime Video with no installations required (it’s aptly called Watch Prime Video Party). You can enjoy a TV party on a desktop PC or laptop, and each attendee must have an Amazon Prime Video subscription. It should be noted that you can only view Amazon content, so borrowing or buying other titles is not allowed.
Even if you’ve already paid the rent or purchase, you are not allowed to see the title of the party. It’s a bit of a limiting factor, but Amazon still has an extensive list of consumables so you’re sure to find something you would like.
To start a Prime Video virtual watch party, go to the feature you want to view and press Watch party Opportunity. You need to enter your name and the video will begin. At this point you can get the share link and copy and paste it into the other virtual viewers.

YouTube Party is a free Chrome extension for watching YouTube videos synced with your friends. To use it, just download it, select the video you want to watch virtually, click YouTube party icon, and Start the party. A YouTube link that can be shared will be generated and once you pass it on to the other attendees, you can start your watch party.
There are also many other services that you can use to share a virtual playback experience with YouTube (Watch2Gether, SyncTube, TwoSeven, and more). Regardless of which service you use, the host of the virtual watch party can create a room and invite the other viewers to join. Most of the time, you can also use the service to chat and respond to what you see. Some of these services allow virtual viewers to turn on their microphones and webcams, which can be distracting (but also quite fun if you’re watching a scary movie, for example).
Hulu has a watch party feature that comes with the service so you don’t have to install anything. Since it is an online service, you will need a desktop PC or laptop to enjoy the virtual watch party and access the supported web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge).
Up to eight people can view the ad, and they must all have a Hulu subscription. Note that if you have an account but are under the age of 18, you cannot join a watch party. If you share an account with other people but want everyone to participate in the virtual display, you can do so with separate profiles.
To host a Hulu Watch Party, select the feature that you want to watch virtually. Next, check to see if the watch party icon is there, and if so, click on it and Start the party. You will be given a shareable link that you can send to the other attendees and once they have joined your party you can get started.
A virtual watch party is the way to go
Spending time with friends and family is great, but getting to your place can be a chore. Nobody wants to spend more than five minutes commuting. It’s a waste of time and energy, and when the weather is bad it’s worse. If you are the host of the movie night, it is not a picnic either, as you will have to prepare your home for the visitors and tidy up afterwards.
However, virtual meeting works great for everyone. All you need is an internet connection and a computer, phone or television and you’re good to go. Choose the superior way of enjoying the movie night and having a virtual watch party.
