If you want to make structural changes to your workbook, e.g. For example, to add, move, delete, hide, or rename your worksheets, you must unprotect your workbook (as opposed to unprotecting a worksheet). This will unlock the options to make the above changes to your workbook.
If you want to change the data in your worksheet, e.g. For example, to change the contents of a cell, you must unprotect your sheet. This allows you to add and remove content from your worksheet.
In any case, it is easy to unprotect your items in Excel, as we will explain below.
To be able to make structural changes to your workbook, first start your spreadsheet with Microsoft Excel.
At the top of the Excel ribbon, click the Review tab.
On the Review tab, in the Protect section, select Protect Workbook.
If you didn’t use a password to protect your workbook, your workbook is now unprotected.
If you used a password for protection, enter that password in the Unprotect Workbook box that opens and click OK.
Your workbook is now unlocked and you can add, remove, delete, hide and rename worksheets in it. Enjoy!

To change the contents of your cells in your worksheet, first open your spreadsheet with Microsoft Excel.
When Excel opens, select the Review tab at the top of the ribbon.
On the Review tab, in the Protect section, select Unprotect Sheet.
If you didn’t use a password to protect your worksheet, your worksheet is now unlocked.
If you used a password, enter your password in the Unprotect Sheet field and click OK.
Your worksheet is now unlocked and you can make any changes you want to it.
