After the launch of Instacart, you can now order large items from retailers. The company’s new service, aptly named Big & Bulkypromises same-day, on-schedule delivery of products such as outdoor furniture, office supplies, and home electronics. To date, a handful of retailers across the country, including Mastermind Toys, Office Depot and Staples, participate in the program.
If you already use Instacart for grocery shopping, you can order large items at the same time as you shop for groceries for the week. The company suggests some admittedly bizarre use cases in which you could use the service. Suppose you don’t have a TV before the football game you want to watch. According to Instacart, you can get a 55-inch set in an hour using its app. It’s hard to say how often you’ll find yourself in such situations, but the good news is that the service gives the company’s contract buyers an additional opportunity to make money. Instacart tells Workers who accept Big & Bulky orders would be paid based on the number and weight of items in an order, and offered a “big pay” incentive where appropriate.
