When it comes time to buy power tools for a home improvement project, you’ll find plenty to choose from at several retailers, and things can get expensive quickly. You’ve probably noticed HART Tools recently, an affordable new option from Walmart. So who makes HART power tools, and are they worth buying?
HART was pretty big in the 80’s and made excellent framing hammers and other tools, so perhaps the name sounds familiar. As of 2019, you’ll only see the big white and blue tools at Walmart, where it offers a wide range of power tools in 20 volt and 40 volt, with cordless and corded options, not to mention leaf blowers and other gadgets.
Whether it’s worth buying a particular brand of tool depends on your wants and needs, and we’re not going to argue which brand is the best. Here’s what you need to know about the HART brand.
Who Makes HART Tools?
As we said above, HART is a name that has been around since the 80’s. However, HART tools were acquired by the TTI (Techtronic Industries) Group in 2007. The company is a large manufacturer of tools and housewares.
In addition to manufacturing HART tools, TTI builds products for multiple brands including Milwaukee Tool, Ridgid, Ryobi, Hoover, ORECK, Dirt Devil and many more. As you can probably imagine, the company has a ton of technology and R&D to draw from, and consistently offers great options for customers around the world.
So HART tools come from the same people who make your favorite Milwaukee M12 or those bright fluorescent green Ryobi tools you find at Home Depot.
A common question is, “Are HART tools the same as Ryobi?” Unfortunately, that’s a difficult question to answer. They’re the same in a way, but they’re also different. Aside from the color, many HART and Ryobi tools look very similar because they are both made by the same company. However, they are not The same thingnor are the tools and battery packs interchangeable with other brands.
Where are HART tools made?
HART tools are designed, marketed, and distributed in the United States. However, according to TTI, the manufacturing process takes place in China, Vietnam, Mexico and Europe. Exactly where HART tools come from is difficult to understand. Technically, some Milwaukee and Ridgid tools are made in the US despite being owned by TTI.
In case you’re wondering, there are power tool brands from America. The “Made in USA” label has changed recently, but typically tools from DeWALT, Craftsman, STANLEY BLACK & DECKER, Makita, Mac Tools, Snap-On, and others are made in the USA.
HART tool assortment and indentations
Now that you know a little more about HART tools, what does the range have to offer? It turns out a bunch of stuff.
Walk through Walmart and you’ll find a wide selection of power tools (cordless and cordless), hand tools, automotive tools, lawn and garden tools, vacuums and cleaning supplies, rotary tools, storage containers, safety glasses or gear, and random DIY accessories, inverters , lighting, outdoor clothing and more. The company sells a little bit of everything.
Are HART tools good? While I don’t own one, I’ve used HART power tools and some of his hand tools extensively over the past year. Honestly, I have no real complaints. In my experience they are pretty solid and offer excellent value for money.
I own a variety of Ryobi tools and have felt at home using a HART drill/screwdriver and the 3/8″ punch is very similar to the model I own. The HART power tools didn’t have additional features like built-in lights or a magnetic tray on the bottom for holding screws, a feature many love from other brands, but it wasn’t a bad experience.
Is it the best tool you can buy? No. Do they do most of the DIY jobs around the house? Absolutely.
Are HART tools worth buying?
Power tool lovers are passionate, and the debate about which brand is the best is never-ending. And while a great tool is essential for the job, especially when it comes to professional work, your average home handyman might not need the absolute best.
So is it worth buying a HART tool? It all depends on your wants, needs, budget and the task at hand. If you’re looking for an affordable tool to hang pictures or do small DIY jobs around the house, you’ll be satisfied with what HART has to offer.
Considering that the TTI Group makes HART tools, you get a device from a big name in the industry. I love my Ryobi tools, have nothing bad to say about Ridgid, and HART is a similar no-frills product to keep things budget-friendly.
Add to that how readily available the tools are at any nearby Walmart, and it’s a solid option for those in need. In addition, all HART power tools carry a 3-year limited warranty. Larger 40V tools come with a 5 year warranty with a 3 year battery warranty and a lifetime hand tool warranty. This is the same coverage as Ryobi.
If you already have another brand of power tool, I do not recommend HART. That’s because it’s usually a good idea to stick with one tool brand. This allows you to further expand the set and swap battery packs between devices.
Additionally, if you’re a pro who uses these tools on a daily basis, you should look elsewhere. For example, Milwaukee places a large focus on the electric and automotive markets, and many mechanics enjoy what the brand has to offer. Other pros prefer DeWALT and so on. Buying the right tool depends on how you use it, how often, and your job.
Which HART tools you should buy
