In the movie Jurassic World Dominion, we see a company called Biosyn operating at full capacity, creating dinosaurs and other dangerous creatures at an alarming rate. In Jurassic World Evolution 2’s new expansion, Dominion Biosyn, play through the early days of this corporation and learn how its hunger to bring back never-before-seen dinosaurs worsens.
My time at Biosyn’s vast dinosaur sanctuary was short but rewarding. The new campaign flows harmlessly from mission to mission, allowing for success with little setback. Some dinosaurs get sick or misbehave, but this is essentially a hassle-free playthrough that lets you interact with a handful of awesome new dinosaurs over the course of just an hour or two.
All Biosyn Dinosaurs are fantastic additions, bringing the fury of the Pyroraptor and the oddly shambling grace of the Dimetrodon to your parks. That Giganotosaurus and Quetzalcoatlus also bring some size to the hunting trails and are animated in terrifying ways.
The campaign missions don’t demand much from the player and don’t tend too much to juggle scientist duties (although they are always required). You don’t have to worry about guest satisfaction and mainly focus on creating habitats for your new dinosaurs. The new invisible fence is a great way to show them off, especially when applied to other maps, but can be a bit tricky to work with when the map is heavily forested. You’ll need to check your overhead heatmap to see the perimeter before attaching ranger posts and feeding stations. The subway system is also a bit of a hassle to chain.
As the sanctuary grows dangerously, the story takes you deep into the uneasy ambition of Lewis Dodgson, voiced again by Campbell Scott. This story is a prequel to the film, but I recommend experiencing it after seeing the chaos in the film. Seeing how Scott started has more bite in hindsight.
The Dominion Biosyn expansion expands on the core game in small but meaningful ways, making the sandbox experience all the better as a result. These invisible fences look amazing in different habitats and it’s a lot of fun to see the new dinosaurs interacting with the existing plot.
Some big dinos out domination are missing (most notably the Atrociraptor) and I still want juvenile versions so we can add Bumpy and Beta. All we can do now is enjoy this well-crafted new content and hope that Frontier is working on another sizeable expansion, or better yet, Jurassic Evolution 3.
