Knockout City, the popular EA Originals dodgeball game developed by Velan Studios, will be officially free to play starting in Year 2.
This message comes through a new one post Office by Velan on EA’s Knockout City page. In it, the studio reveals that after the conclusion of the current Season 5, Season 6 will begin the second year, which in turn will mark the game’s transition to a free-to-play title. Additionally, Velan will say goodbye to its publishing partner EA to self-publish future content for the title.
Beginning with Season 6, Velan Studios will also self-publish Knockout City and its content.
“From the day we founded our studio, we’ve worked to bring revolutionary new gaming experiences to you, our amazing gaming community,” writes Velan. “We couldn’t have brought Knockout City to the world without the incredible support of EA Originals, but now that we’re moving to free-to-play, the natural next step for us is to take ownership of the release and work even more closely together our community. We have exciting plans for Knockout City and the in-house release will allow us to fully realize our vision for the long-term future of this game.”
Velan says that due to everything that’s happening behind the scenes to bring the publishing in-house and launch Knockout City as a free-to-play title with Season 6, Season 5 will have less content compared to previous seasons. There will be no new Brawl Pass for Season 5 and there will be fewer season-wide packs and cosmetics. Also, there will be no new map or orb. Velan says this content shift is only temporary, however, and that Season 6 will launch with all the usual content and more.
