Parent-teacher meetings could soon become even more interactive thanks to a new Microsoft Teams update.
The video conferencing service has announced it is working on Parent Connection, a new feature that will allow parents or guardians to communicate directly with educators through Microsoft Teams.
The company promises the feature will allow parents and teachers to connect via chat, email or phone calls, potentially signaling an end to awkward after-hours school visits.

In the official Microsoft 365 roadmap entry The new feature is described as allowing educators to connect with their students’ guardians “with a single click” via chat, email or phone.
The feature is still listed as in development for now, but has a general availability release date of May 2022, so might not be too far away.
Microsoft says that after launch, Parent Connection will be available to Teams users around the world on its educational platform, as well as general users across the web, desktop, and mobile platforms.

Other than that, not many details are available about the new feature, but Parent Connection looks likely to be the latest in a series of education-focused upgrades released to Microsoft Teams over the past few months.
This includes a Class Insights tab that allows educators to analyze their students’ performance, including grade averages, assignments on time, average return time, and conversational activity over time.
Using data from the Class Insights tab, educators using Teams now have a single view to observe both individual student and class performance and can make more informed decisions about their curriculum, pace, and student engagement .
In September 2021, Microsoft Teams also announced Reading Progress, a new free tool designed to help students improve their reading skills through hands-on practice, but also allows teachers and faculty to better support students’ needs by providing in-depth analysis offer that help support their progress over time.
