Mortal Kombat is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and while fans will have to wait some time to learn about developer NetherRealm’s next game, the studio is celebrating the birthday with a new video. The Sizzle video showcases the role Mortal Kombat has played not only in the world of video games but also in the entertainment industry over the past three decades, including the 2021 live-action film.
Additionally, Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm announced that Klassic Movie Raiden is coming to Mortal Kombat Mobile today. This showcases the look and voice of actor Christopher Lambert as Raiden in the 1995 film. Players have until October 11th to grab this character.
Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon recently urged fans to stay patient for updates on NetherRealm’s next game. For now, the company’s focus is on celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Mortal Kombat franchise, he said, adding that NetherRealm will announce its next game “in due course.”
Mortal Kombat was first released to arcades on October 8, 1992 and went on to become one of the most successful fighting game franchises in the industry. The most recent installment, Mortal Kombat 11, sold over 12 million copies as of July 2021.
