Motorola just unveiled the Edge 2022 (aka Motorola Edge Gen 3), which is based on MediaTek’s new Dimensity 1050 computing platform and strikes an exciting balance between 5G capabilities and cost-efficiency. The price of this phone is $499.
The Edge 2022 (official page) matches the overall design language of the more powerful Motorola Edge 30 Pro ($600). However, the latter is a high-end phone with more expensive features like processor, battery charging, etc. They don’t cover the same market.
Among the similarities to last year’s model, Motorola has retained the IP52 (what is an IP rating?)
The new Edge 2022 brings significant improvements in 5G support (sub6 + mmWave) in this price range. In addition, the new 144Hz 6.6 inch OLED display outputs perfect blacks and more vivid colors than the previous LCD.
The rear camera system includes a 50MP primary sensor supported by a Ultrawide + Macro 13MP secondary sensor. The selfie camera features a 32-megapixel sensor with 0.7-micron pixels.
Overall it looks like good value for money based on the technical specs and we’re excited to see how this collaboration between MediaTek and Motorola plays out in the real world. Most likely quite well.
