National Science Day is celebrated on February 28th each year in India to honor the contributions of scientists to the development of the nation.
The day commemorates the invention of the eminent scientist CV Raman in 1928, the “Raman Effect”. For this historic discovery, Raman received the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physics.

This year, the theme of the National Science Day will be “Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future”. The theme of the day changes each year to highlight a different facet of society. In 2021, the theme of the National Science Day was “The Future of STI”.
National Science Day 2022: History
In 1986, the National Council for Science and Technology Communications approached the government urging that February 28 be declared National Science Day. The government accepted the NCSTC’s proposal and in 1987 the day was first celebrated in the country.

National Science Day is celebrated with the goal of motivating students to get involved in science. On this day, young people across the country demonstrate various innovative science projects. The Government of India also sponsors the nation’s scientists who have contributed immensely to the field of science.

On this day, students from various schools, universities and institutes present their latest research results. Science exhibitions, radio and television discussion shows, science film exhibitions, research demonstrations, science model exhibitions and other events are also held across the country to celebrate the day.
