Nerf, the leading foam dart and watergun manufacturer, has unveiled its first-ever mascot, aptly named Murph. Murph Nerfington (I gave them their last name) will represent the company in a multi-year marketing campaign on social media, public events and more.
Murph looks more like a Koosh mascot than a Nerf rep, although that would still be under the Hasbro umbrella. However, if you look closely, you can see that Murph is made entirely of foam Nerf darts. The new character was created in conjunction with a new summer initiative by the company to invite families to play. Given the language of the she/them pronouns in the mascot’s announcement, Murph has no set gender. So Happy Pride Month Murph! The company even has a new mnemonic embodying Murph: “Unleash the game within you.” I’m not sure what hard-to-remember topic this mnemonic is meant to remind us of, but it’s a cute slogan nonetheless.
Below are a handful of promotional images of Murph handing out some new Nerf guns and looking like a late 2000’s physics tech demo.
Shared in a press release game informantHere’s what Adam Kleinman, Nerf’s senior vice president and general manager, has to say to welcome Murph:
“The launch of Murph is a testament to the success of Hasbro’s Brand Blueprint strategy and establishes Nerf as the social, active gaming brand it is known to be today. We are excited to introduce fans to Murph, a mascot that represents the playful spirit that lives within all of us and is unleashed by Nerf.”
If you see Murph this summer, make sure you give them a nice chill spray from your Nerf Super Soaker. You would be doing them a favor; It must be hotter than hell in that suit.
Where do you think the mascot Murph belongs in the family tree? Is it on the branch with Gritty or maybe AM/PM’s Toomgis? How about the McDonald’s Fry Kids? Let us know in the comments!
