Recent reports suggest that Netflix’s upcoming ad-supported tier may not come with a popular feature.
The streaming giant has no plans to let subscribers download content for offline viewing at its ad-supported tier. Apparently, Netflic doesn’t allow customers to download TV shows and movies to their devices unless they pay for a more expensive subscription.
The removal of the download feature from what is likely Netflix’s cheapest plan was spotted by a developer, Steve Moser, who looked at the company’s iPhone code, according to Bloomberg. Moser also found that you won’t be able to skip ads or use playback controls while ads are running, the report said.
Netflix said it’s still deciding how to roll out its cheaper ad-supported tier and has nothing further to share at this time.
However, what we do know so far about Netflix’s ad-supported subscription plan is that they will work with Microsoft and using their services to deliver the commercials on their video streaming service.
They are also committed to minimizing the invasion of privacy that often accompanies digital ads.
Netflix announced it was abandoning its opposition to advertising after announcing it had lost 200,000 subscribers in the first three months of the year amid stiffer competition and rising inflation that had squeezed household budgets, leading to it that management realized the time had come for a more cost-effective option.
Netflix was possibly one of the biggest players in the OTT space some time ago, but nowadays the number of OTT platforms around the world has grown exponentially. These players were able to take advantage of Netflix’s subscriber base. Added to this is the fact that several countries have a number of their own private providers in this inexpensive area.
Netflix hasn’t revealed the price point at which they will launch their ad-based tier. In all likelihood, it will be similar to the American streaming service Hulu, around $ 5.99 per month. Of course, it will be cheaper in certain Asian markets.
