While Spotify is primarily a music streaming platform, it also has some social features like a friends list. That way, you can basically see what the person is hearing, visit their page, and also check out any public playlists they may have created. However, some users don’t necessarily want these social features and some have even encountered harassment.
The good news is that, according to a report from The Verge, it seems that Spotify has finally allowed users to easily block other users. All users have to do is go to that person’s profile and block them and do the same if they want to unblock them later. Blocking a user will stop all of the above social functions.
According to a company spokesperson in a statement emailed to the publication: “At Spotify, we strive to give our users the best possible listening experience. Privacy is and will remain extremely important to us and our blocking feature, which gives users more control, is the latest step in that commitment. “
This is actually quite a big deal as users previously had to contact customer support to request a user banned, which is hardly ideal. Spotify said they would look into it in 2018 and it looks like the feature is finally here.
