If you’re still trying to gain access to the ongoing Overwatch 2 PVP beta, the Overwatch League has good news for you. During select games throughout opening weekend, the Overwatch League will be handing out 1,500 beta codes per hour to people watching the games.
The Overwatch 2 closed beta, which began last week and runs through May 17, has been handing out invitations to players who have registered in waves for access. Additionally, viewers on Twitch could sign up for Drops, which reward them with beta access for spending a few hours watching one of the dozens of streamers Blizzard is partnering with. During the Overwatch League opening weekend, a similar reward system will be used to deliver beta codes to viewers on YouTube, where the Overwatch League is now streaming exclusively. All you need to do beforehand to be eligible is link your YouTube and Battle.net accounts.

The Overwatch League, returning to its fifth season on May 5, announced the move via a weird vintage video that included teasing of Bastion wearing a hat. This final season is particularly notable as it will mark the first season of the Overwatch League in which players will participate in a previously unreleased build of Overwatch 2.
The Overwatch 2 beta marks the beginning of a rollout announced by Blizzard in March that will decouple PVP from PVE to get the former into player hands faster. The beta features Overwatch 2’s new 5v5 format, four new maps, push mode, reworks for a number of characters, a new ping system, and the introduction of Sojourn, Overwatch’s first new hero in over two years. GameSpot recently took a look at Overwatch 2 and found that it “doesn’t redefine the formula, but provides a welcome excuse to return to the world of Overwatch.”
The release of Overwatch 2 comes against the backdrop of a turbulent time for Activision Blizzard and its leadership, Bobby Kotick, who has faced multiple lawsuits and allegations of promoting a toxic work culture.
