One of the features that Apple introduced to its iPhone and Apple Watch is that the device can be used as a digital car key so that users can unlock their cars with either their smartphone or their smartwatch (assuming they have a compatible car model ). Now it looks like Samsung has introduced a similar feature to its smartphones as well.
The company announced that if you have a compatible smartphone and car, you can use the company’s Galaxy smartphones to unlock and start your car. This includes newer Samsung devices like the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy S21 +, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. Oddly enough, the new Galaxy Z Flip 3 is missing from the list.
Currently, however, car compatibility is extremely limited as it only works with the Genesis GV60, but then again, this is not really Samsung’s fault as this is still relatively new technology. We envision that this could become the standard at some point in the future. This is made possible by using the NFC and UWB technology integrated in the smartphones.
In addition, this feature is initially limited to Korea, where the feature is expected to be introduced by the end of the year.
