Companies like Sigma are known for making relatively inexpensive third-party lenses for brands like Sony, Canon, Nikon, etc. This is a great alternative for photographers who may find first-party lenses too expensive. However, since these are third-party lenses, compatibility can be an issue.
In the case of the Canon EOS R series, users had to Rely on an adapter from Canonalthough there are limitations in some cases. However, a report by Canon Rumors claims that, based on what they have heard from their sources, it appears that by 2022, Sigma will launch lenses that work with the EOS R’s RF mount.
This means that those who shoot with Canon’s EOS R cameras will no longer have to rely on adapters to attach these new lenses to the camera, and may also have full functionality. This is not the first time we’ve heard about it, as there was a report from as early as 2019 Canon watch suggested that Sigma work on these lenses.
It may have taken a long time, but if you love Sigma lenses and would like to see EOS R support, then 2022 could be the year to look forward to.
