Fans of cannabis culture celebrate April 20th (420) as an official holiday each year. And this year, Skullcandy and Doritos are helping them celebrate the event with what can only be described as a “collaborative” collaboration: Skullcandy’s Dime Wireless Earbuds have come in two nacho-cheese-inspired color themes (orange and red) in limited edition edition dressed. available exclusively on skullcandy.com starting April 12 for $35 – a $10 premium over the price of a non-nacho set of dimes.
“It’s no secret that the hunger for snacks and tracks on what’s now legitimately a cultural vacation has only grown,” said Jessica Klodnicki, Skullcandy’s chief marketing officer, in a press release, “and we’re thrilled to be catering to that.” ”
Only 420 of the 4/20 Skullcandy x Doritos dimes will be sold and each one is individually hand numbered. If you’re among the first 100 people to place an order, you’ll also receive a Skullcandy/Doritos-branded triangular plastic bowl, dubbed the “Dust Bowl” by the companies. We can only assume that the narrow slit carved into one side of the tray is there to aid in the process of extracting all that nacho cheese goodness into your mouth. What else could it be for?
Doritos-inspired colors and graphics aside, these Dimes in the 4/20 edition are just like the company’s standard Dimes – a remarkably compact set of wireless earbuds that offer surprisingly decent sound for the price. They have a battery life of up to 12 hours and can withstand sweat and rain thanks to an IPX4 rating. You can use the earbuds together for stereo sound, or individually to extend battery life even further.
A set of physical buttons beneath a rubberized exterior are easy to use unless you’re in a state of limited dexterity, and they can control all the essential functions like play/pause, track forward/backward, and volume up/down. When I picked up the original dimes in 2021, I found them very comfortable and really liked the design of the charging case with its tiny footprint and ultra-secure snap closure.
Skullcandy says if you order the 4/20 Skullcandy x Doritos Dimes on April 12th they should arrive in time for your April 20th celebrations. Unfortunately, a bag of Doritos isn’t included, so while your ears may be satisfied, you’ll still need to visit your local bodega to deal with any hunger you might be feeling that day.
