Aside from various grunts and dragon screams, the Dragonborn is a silent protagonist. If that’s not your thing, Mathiew Mays Dragonborn Voice Over Mod (opens in new tab) for Skyrim Special Edition lets you repeat aloud any line of dialogue you select.
You can choose from a handful of language packs, each built with ElevenLabs AI. Skyrim’s protagonist has over 7,000 lines of dialogue, so you can see why getting an AI to generate dialogue is easier than having someone sit down and record it. There are three voice packs available so far, all based on female voices. Besides the standard, other modders have contributed language packs based on Dynasty Warriors Wang Yuanji (opens in new tab) and the female Sith Inquisitor from Star Wars: The Old Republic (opens in new tab).
May says this mod is in the works, with more language packs as well as an update that will reduce the response time between player-character dialogue and non-player-character responses. As you can see in the Dragonborn Voice Over Showcase video (opens in new tab), there is about a two-second pause before NPCs respond after each AI-generated line. (It’s worth noting that the video doesn’t use the current version of the default voice, by the way. We’ve recently seen other Skyrim modders use AI to add a fully voiced NPC companion to a quest mod and have NPCs say a name of their choosing instead of calling you Dragonborn. There is also an ongoing project to give every NPC in Morrowind fully voiced AI generated dialogue.
An older mod added a few lines from Bruce Campbell so you can play Skyrim as Ash from the Evil Dead series. Other mods replaced the default player grunt with the PC head tracking and voice type mod (opens in new tab) as a base to add battle barks from characters like Geralt and Ciri from The Witcher 3, as well as Lara Croft and Wonder Woman. I imagine it’s only a matter of time before they’re used as the basis for more sets of dragonborn dialogue.
