Snapchat can now be accessed from outside of a smartphone and it will bring a better and more productive experience for heavy users. As with any other social media app, being able to chat and make video calls from a computer is sometimes extremely useful.
Interestingly this Snapchat web app only runs on Chrome but not on Apple’s Safari. Luckily, Mac users can install Chrome for free, so it’s a slight inconvenience.
Now, Says Snapchat Chat reactions and chat replies are supported, but lenses are “coming soon”. As a first step, this desktop app is accessible paid Snapchat+ users in a handful of countries: US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The rest of the world will eventually have access.
Some people think this desktop Snapchat might even compete with Zoom, but both have different use cases, with Zoom being used for corporate and “work” calls. On the other hand, Snapchat is used for fun and by a different audience.
We’re not denying some overlap with students becoming Zoom users in recent years, but it seems more likely that Snapchat won’t be used extensively for school or work anytime soon.
