It has been rumored for a long time that Sony is working on a new subscription service that is supposed to be similar to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. Sure enough, it looks like the new service has been announced, but instead of giving it a new name, Sony has decided to continue using the PlayStation Plus branding.
For those unfamiliar, PlayStation Plus originally debuted in 2010 and was required by Sony if gamers wanted to play their games online with others. With this overhaul, however, Sony has added a few new layers that offer additional benefits such as access to a games library as well as streaming.
The most basic PlayStation Plus tier continues to offer players what they previously had with their $9.99 per month PlayStation Plus subscription. It includes two monthly downloadable games, discounts, cloud storage and online multiplayer access.
Then there’s the Extra Tier, which offers a library of up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games for players to download and play, and costs $14.99 per month. Last but not least, there is the Premium tier, which offers the additional feature of being able to stream games through the PlayStation Now service. Games can be streamed on PS4, PS5 and also PC and costs $17.99 per month.
