Sony could be on the verge of unveiling a slightly refined version of its new LinkBuds true wireless earbuds, judging by some new images leaked on Twitter.
Images that have surfaced from the leaker account Snoopy Tech on Twitter On April 21, a new version of the Sony LinkBuds codenamed Sony LinkBuds S will reportedly be unveiled. Judging by the images, the new true-wireless model swaps out the hole in the center of the earbuds for a round opening near the ear canal, which can allow sound to pass through.
Overall they look very similar to Sony’s other true wireless earbuds, the Sony WF-1000XM4, but could allow for better ambient awareness through the vent – true to Sony’s LinkBuds ethos – without using an open hole that can’t be covered .
That could, in many ways, fix some of LinkBuds’ biggest problems.

Analysis: The LinkBuds alternative for us
When they were released a few months ago, the Sony LinkBuds caused quite a stir in the audio world. Some saw real potential in the open-ear design, which would allow you to keep an eye on what’s going on around you – especially if you’re working from home with young children. While others felt they were a little uncomfortable and lacked bass.
Using a vent instead of an open hole would allow the LinkBuds to close the vent when you don’t need ambient awareness, boosting bass response, and pull the vent off when you want to let the outside world in.
Because they’re similar in design to the Sony WF-1000XM4, they’re certainly a little more comfortable than the LinkBuds, and stay in the ears a little better for some people too.
Unfortunately, there’s no word on the price or release date for these models – we’re still waiting for Sony to publicly confirm or deny their existence – but May and June is usually when Sony talks about its upcoming audio products.
Hopefully the LinkBuds S are among them.
