Atlus has arguably taken the crown as the fan-favorite JRPG developer in modern times. Although it slowly gained popularity at first, individual 5 cemented this series as a must-have for fans of the genre thanks to its intuitive and rewarding combat system, a great mix of dungeon-crawling and social elements, and a healthy dose of style you won’t find anywhere else. However, Persona is just a branch of JRPG that Atlus has been making for years, including the series it was spun off from, Shin Megami Tensei, and also soul hacker.

We love it when a game is announced with a release date, and that’s exactly what happened Soul Hacker 2. The game launches in all territories on August 26, 2022. This is a somewhat rare move for Atlus as they typically have a gap between their games released in the west compared to Japan.

Soul Hacker 2 will be available on almost every modern platform. You can download the game on your PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. However, there was no talk of a switch version.

The first trailer is fittingly the Soul Hacker 2 announcement trailer. It opens onto Ringo in a bizarre, out-of-time location, and is awakened by a voice she calls Figue. She levitates through a void of cubes before the music kicks in and the trailer really begins.
We hear Ringo discover what Devil Summoners are, and we take a look at a variety of cast members tasked with preventing the apocalypse. The trailer throws us a bunch of terms, like “The Great One” and Phantom Society, that we shouldn’t fully understand yet. From there, we’re treated to a number of different gameplay segments such as combat, shopping, exploration, and dialogue. It ends with Ringo identifying himself as a “super intelligent being born from the sea of information”. And I’m here to stop the apocalypse.” Whatever that means.
The rest of the footage serves more to set the tone for fans of Atlus games in a bright, neon-filled cyber-adventure with stylish characters and familiar demons.
The second official trailer for Soul Hacker 2 is much shorter and opens in the same way as the first. This time we get some new character shots, a few new lines that we can’t understand out of context, and a rerun of the mission: save the world.
While the trailers don’t give too much away, thanks to the we can learn more about what’s going on official website of the game. Here we learn that the world is in a state where technology has advanced to the point where people are obsessed with convenience and commerce. War is also raging beneath the surface between two factions of Devil Summoners, the Yatagarasu and the aforementioned Phantom Society.
Aion is a Hivemind created from humanity’s data that has evolved into a consciousness that predicts humanity’s downfall, thus creating two agents in human form, Ringo and Figue, to prevent the apocalypse.
Her at least so far known team of playable characters includes Ringo, Figue, Arrow, Milady, Saizo and Mimi. Created at the same time as Ringo under the same circumstances, Figue is a supporting character who operates Mimi, a drone shaped like an owl. The other three party members, Arrow, Milady, and Saizo, come from the groups Yatagarasu, Phantom Society, and freelance Devil Summoner, respectively.
Other important characters include Iron Mask, the leader of a C-Project in the Phantom Society, Zenon, an artificial demon created by Iron Mask, and other Phantom Society members.
Although we can’t be absolutely sure yet, it doesn’t seem like it’s the first knowledge soul hacker Game is required to play Soul Hacker 2. So far, the entire cast is made up of new characters, and everything about the story is unique.
playing style
If you have played individual 5 or Shin Megami Tensei 5, then Soul Hacker 2 will feel like a familiar middle ground between these two combat systems. You have a party of four characters at a time and engage in turn-based battles. Each character uses a demon for their abilities, which all have strengths and weaknesses, just like enemies. However, hitting an enemy’s weakness doesn’t cause them to lose a turn, instead building up into a Sabbath ability that works just like an all-out attack from Persona. Once you discover an enemy’s weakness, you can instantly exploit it with the click of a button – if that character has the appropriate skills.
Otherwise, expect your mostly traditional turn-based combat affair with management of HP, SP, items, and gear.
Characters are equipped with a COMP with demons, which you can do during battle at the cost of a turn. These are each character’s unique weapons that can be modified and upgraded. On the social side of things, you can explore sci-fi inspired Japan as well as special realms where demons roam and mingle. When meeting up with party members e.g. B. over a drink in a bar, you increase their soul level and work very similar to social links from the Persona series.
Demons can be acquired through negotiation during battles, albeit in a much more streamlined system, or fused together to form new and more powerful companions.
multiplayer
Soul Hacker 2 is a traditional JRPG through and through. That means there’ll be a lengthy single-player-only campaign and maybe a new Game Plus mode, but no multiplayer components at all. However, that shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with Atlus games.
