16-year-old Ed Main EndingWalker was only entering his second personal Street Fighter tournament, but you wouldn’t believe how he fared.
The young gamer stormed through the winner’s bracket at Ultimate Fighting Arena this past weekend, overcoming highly respected full-time pro players. After beating Valmaster’s Chun Li 3-0 final examination (opens in new tab)EndWalker just walked into the crowd (opens in new tab)undeterred.
Okay, with much encouragement from the enthralled audience, EndingWalker smiled sheepishly and returned to the stage to receive well-deserved applause for his outstanding tournament run and to collect his medal and grand prize of around $3,000. Exit Walker later tweeted (opens in new tab) that he was “overwhelmed” by the result and that “reality had not materialized”.
A perfectly reasonable response to doing something really cool in front of an enthusiastic audience, and it’s really just icing on the cake that it was more of a “well, what do I do now” response than one ice cold esports flex.
EndingWalker has earned something of a reputation as a prodigy in the Street Fighter 5 community, taking first place in a variety of online tournaments over the past year. In his first in-person appearance on VSFighting X in August, EndingWalker placed third.
I left the stage after the grand finale because reality hadn’t arrived yet. XDI had a great time at the venue. The staff was super friendly and helpful, like everyone! In the end I was just a little overwhelmed which is why I left pretty quickly after winning. I had a great time!November 13, 2022
