If you were intrigued by The Callisto Protocol when it was released last month but didn’t want to spend $70 on it, now is your chance to get the survival horror game at a great price. The Callisto Protocol is available from Walmart for just $40 for PS5. It’s the lowest price yet for the PS5 version. Unfortunately, Xbox Series X owners cannot take advantage of this deal. It’s worth noting that both the PS4 and Xbox One editions are also discounted to $40.
The Callisto Protocol is the debut game from Striking Distance Studios, a games studio made up of former Dead Space and Call of Duty developers including director Glenn Schoefield. Positioned as the “spiritual sequel” to the original Dead Space trilogy, the game offers a mix of brutal action combat and sci-fi survival horror.
While The Callisto Protocol certainly has a strong pedigree behind it, fans and critics were ultimately divided on whether it lived up to expectations when it was released in December 2022. In our review, Jordan Ramée gave The Callisto Protocol a 5/10, praising the graphical fidelity, audio design, and some of the main cast’s performances, but lamenting the lackluster combat and late-game difficulty spike.
Despite the mixed critical reception, The Callisto Protocol might be worth grabbing while it’s on sale for those who want to try the game for themselves.
