We’re still getting reports that a remake of 2013’s The Last of Us is in the works, and it looks like it’s due out sometime this year. The remake will reportedly come out during the holiday season, which is currently pretty much empty after Starfield’s delay.
“I keep hearing that [The Last of Us remake] coming out this year,” said Grubbsnax host and GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb at the Episode of Kinda Funny Gamescast of May 18, 2022. “The Last of Us remake this holiday.”
Several sources have already reported this story, so there’s a good chance there’s some truth to the story. in one tweet Back in January, freelance writer and games industry insider Tom Henderson first reported that The Last of Us remake would be released in “the second half of 2022.” Bloomberg collaborated on that forecast and submitted its own report in April.
Also in April, a LinkedIn listing hinted that developer Naughty Dog might be working on a remake for The Last of Us. The listing mentions “QA testing and development support + level point of contact for unannounced remake project”.
The listing also mentions an “unannounced multiplayer project,” which could mean that this unannounced remake will include an online component.
Admittedly, the list could have spoken of two completely different games. At CES 2022, Neil Druckmann teased that Naughty Dog is currently working on “several game projects.”
I guess we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out. When it comes to Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic franchise, all we know for now is that the HBO TV show The Last of Us will be released in 2023.
