We’ve speculated for months about a possible launch date for the Samsung Galaxy S23, but it seems we can now confidently circle a date for the big reveal on our 2023 calendar: Wednesday 1st February.
Samsung didn’t come out and specifically say that date, but it did (via SamMobile (opens in new tab)) released a Galaxy Unpacked teaser for February 1st on its Colombian website. We can’t find the teaser at the time of writing, so it’s either been removed or we’re not very good at searching the Samsung Colombia portal.
While this isn’t officially official, it’s almost official. Considering that it aligns with previous rumors from reliable sources that have pointed to the same date, we’d say it’s fairly certain that February 1st will be the date for the big reveal.

If Samsung decides to unveil its latest flagships, there probably won’t be too many surprises for us considering how extensive the leaks for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra have been.
In terms of design, it seems that all three phones in the series will follow the lead of the Ultra model, with raised camera lenses on the back. We also got an early look at the colors the phones will be available in.
There has also been a lot of talk about camera upgrades, especially when it comes to the Ultra model. Photos and videos captured in both good and low light conditions should be better than ever if the rumors are true.
Analysis: Samsung strikes back
When it comes to smartphone launches from high-profile tech giants, we tend to focus on Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Pixel and Samsung’s Galaxy S – but only one of those three phones will launch earlier this year.
That puts Samsung in a different position to Apple and Google. You could say the iPhone 14 and the Pixel 7 were in direct competition with each other, as they launched around the same time (September and October, respectively). However, when the iPhone 14 was launched, the Samsung Galaxy S22 was already seven months old.
You can see that Samsung is always half a year ahead of its big competitors; Another perspective is that it always lags behind by half a year. At the very least, the strategy means Samsung can get plenty of attention for its flagship phones, regardless of what Apple and Google do.
We’re seeing the launch of the Galaxy S23 as Samsung hits back at what other phone makers have done over the past year and sets the pace for 2023. The next question is how much upgrade over the Galaxy S22 phones will we see.
