Mercedes-Benz launched the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4Matic + in India in 2021. Prices for the smallest 45-badge AMG start at Rs 79.5 lakh (ex-showroom, pre-options) and the hatchback will be introduced as a CBU, unlike the locally-assembled 35-series models. The AMG A 45 S is by far the fastest hatchback that has ever come onto the market in India, the second fastest in the world and is powered by the most powerful four-cylinder engine that has ever been installed in a production vehicle.
The Mercedes-AMG A 45 S is powered by the specially developed 2.0-liter gasoline engine M 139. This four-cylinder single turbo engine develops 421 hp at 6,750 rpm and 500 Nm at 5,000-5,250 rpm. Like the 4.0-liter V8 from larger AMGs, this engine is hand-assembled and has undergone numerous further developments in order to achieve the high specific output.

This engine is combined with an eight-speed AMG double clutch automatic with launch control function and an AMG-tuned all-wheel drive system. This system also has variable torque distribution and a drift mode that works via a pair of clutches in the rear axle. There is a choice of six drive programs – Slippery, Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport + and Race – as well as the three-stage AMG Dynamics ESC modes.
Further improvements over the A 35 include a heavily reinforced chassis with a wider front lane, larger 19-inch tires, revised chassis components and more powerful brakes. The S version coming onto the market in India comes with the standard driver’s package, which increases the top speed to 270 km / h and enables a time from 0 to 100 km / h of 3.9 seconds.
The AMG Hot Hatch also gets a differentiated styling. There is a new bumper and the Panamericana grille, multi-beam LED headlights and a new rear diffuser that ties in with the four-pot exhaust systems. Six color variants are available – Sun Yellow, Polar White, Mountain Gray, Designo Patagonia Red, Designo Mountain Gray Magno and Cosmos Black.
The interior highlights of the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S include the AMG-specific menus in the double touchscreens, aluminum and rubberized dashboard highlights, leather and micro suede upholstery with yellow stitching, the AMG-specific steering wheel and Sports seats. Other features include a head-up display, Burmester Audio with 12 speakers and a safety kit such as lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring.
The Hot Hatch currently has no direct competitors in the country, although the Audi RS 3 is expected to make its debut here in 2022.
